Graham Carey, P.E., AICP is a distinguished professional engineer and certified urban planner with more than 35 years of experience in the transit industry. He has held leadership positions in both the public and private sectors and currently serves as a consultant specializing in Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems.

Mr. Carey is widely recognized for his significant contributions to the advancement of BRT in North America and internationally. He has been directly involved in nearly every major BRT initiative in the United States and has served as a trusted reviewer for the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). Notably, he led the original development of one of the first BRT systems in the United States—the award-winning Lane Transit District EmX in Eugene, Oregon—and directed the first transit public-private partnership (P3) project in North America, the Viva BRT in York, Ontario. Many of the innovations now regarded as central to BRT practice were pioneered through projects led by careyBRT.

In addition to his project work, Mr. Carey has served as the World Bank’s global BRT Subject Matter Expert, advising governments and transit authorities on policy, planning, and implementation of high-capacity bus systems in Africa. In this role, he has helped shape international best practices and provided technical oversight on BRT investments intended to transform urban mobility in developing cities.

He is also the author of more than 40 professional publications focused on high-capacity public transportation systems.
